Email info@CityHallParkNYC.org to join CHP Gardening Group.

Enjoy a productive, outdoor exercise in lower Manhattan fresh air (check Air Quality Index) that makes a visible positive impact on our community.

Check FCHP Events page for group gardening and cleanup events. Scroll down for Group Event Details.

Independent volunteer gardening and cleaning is self-scheduled. You can meet with City Parks Workers Luis, Pedro, John, or Jethro “Chappelle” or Gardener Brandon Grant at DPR sheds to get assignments and tools (incl trash bags). Or choose your own positive gardening or clean-up project and grab tools that are available in the DPR sheds (to return them clean). You can also arrange with Skip, who volunteers regularly.

PLEASE REMEMBER: No convenient restrooms nor drinking water thru March.

FOR GARDENING & CLEANUP: Please bring your own gardening/work gloves or can be provided.

DPR SHEDS - West of Tweed Building near Chambers St gate.

Please email to info@CityHallParkNYC.org to confirm your volunteer project or with questions.

FCHP Group Volunteer Event Details

Thank you for scheduling to help make City Hall Park, our precious neighborhood park and all New Yorkers’ city commons, the best park it can be. Events are usually 10am - noon or 1pm.

Your  volunteer efforts are particularly appreciated in our over-used, under-staffed public green space. Please join FCHP lobbying efforts with New Yorkers for Parks to get adequate parks funding.

Parks Dept Gardener Brandon Grant has plenty for us to accomplish.

Please dress for the most up-to-date weather report, prepared for as dirty work as you want to do; protective shoes, long-sleeve shirts, long pants, and masks (or other breathing covering) for heavier and dirtier work. Hats and sunscreen are handy to have if it’s sunny; antihistamine for those who suffer spring allergies. We can work in rain if not too chilly or windy with proper rain gear.

Please bring reuseable water bottles, convenient to have on-site as you work. Water fountains in the park are likely to be on for refills, (update on water and weather forecast right before your date).

Please reply as soon as you have estimates, then confirm the day before:

  • how many volunteers,

  • how many for harder work, like digging and lopping

  • how many for lighter work, like weeding and clean up

  • how many to do chalk art drawings

  • if you or volunteers will provide their own gardening gloves or how many gardening gloves FCHP should provide.

  • is there a budget for plants for your team to plant, gloves, chalk, other materials? Any size donation is appreciated. If there’s no budget available, needed tools, gloves and some materials are always provided; plants, seeds, mulch, fertilizer are sometimes provided by DPR as available.

  • Name(s) of your team(s), or your participation will be listed as “Corporate name + community service team”

Please let all volunteers know prior to arrival that there is no public restroom in the park. There are agreeable restaurants a block away in all directions.

Please meet at Welcome Tables near Broadway & Warren St park entrance for greeting.

We’ll then assemble at the nearby Parks Dept Sheds for introduction, team assignments and tooling up, then go to Brandon's assignment in the park.

Goal is to finish up projects 15 or so minutes before departure to take photos and return clean tools back at the Sheds and say “good-bye.”

You can arrange a picnic lunch on the cleanest NW lawn after your session if you like.
